rear end noise

i was wondering why when i turn sometimes i hear a clunk from my rear end, and when i grab my rear tire (on both sides) and rock them in and out i hear the same type of a clunk. I don't know what it is and don't wanna spend money replacing wrong parts! any ideas please let me know

sounds like eather the axle bearings are shot or the ring and pinion gear is bad.
