Sounds like key is still in forward position, move steering wheel side to side while trying to turn and release key

didn't work, is there something when linkage is in reverse that allows key to be turned in the off position

You need to get under the dash and physically watch the movement of the mechanism to see if something is binding or interfering at the ignition switch

ComaroCollector gave a very nice diagram of the steering column. If you have ex-ray eyes it will help to look at it. To release the key, really try turning the wheel side to side hard at the same time turning the key off. If it has to be in reverse to remove the key, there may be lose or unadjusted linkage. I do know the Chevy dealers that are good working on Corvettes will have someone that has an answer. Are you parked on an incline? If so, try removing the key when parked level. The key or lock may be orn, and a lock smith may be able to remove it, but it will stick again. You may need to get a new lock and keys which will be expensive, and it has to be mated to your computer to work.

Make sure the center button in your shift is popped all the way up. It the ignition will turn to the full off position and the key won't come out
