tennisshoe is right it is a sensor to tells the computer where the throttle is at so it can add more or less fuel. Rowefast i think you are talking about a IAC idle air control or idle control motor. it cusses a vacuum leak to step up the rpm so is not to kill the motor when your ac is on or you drop the throttle fast
