Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Friend of mind sold his 1965 mustang
convertible because of continuous
mechanical issues. Main issue was vapor
lock in hot weather.  He would like an ionic
car he could enjoy at leisure without such
issues and would be pleasurable to drive.
Especially a car that would be up to date
enough to run on the interstate highways
or just to drive back roads that would be
compatible to the 1965 mustang. What are
some suggestions?

Vapor lock occurs when gasoline in the fuel system boils. Be sure to use fresh gas that was blended for the current season (temperature). Summer blend gas in the Summer. Also, these older motors use an engine block mounted pump that gets hot from engine heat. So mounting an auxiliary electric fuel pump between the gas tank and the original pump will help. Wire it so it goes on/off with the ignition key. Pick a spot that is not too close to heat. Raising the fuel line pressure raises the boiling point of the fuel. This worked for me on a forklift that used to stall and not restart hot when I needed it most. And ask other Mustang owners if they have vapor lock problem and what they did to fix it. Have fun.

There are dozens of cars. I have owned a 67 Firebird, Torino GT and other several other classics and never had vapor lock once.

I thinking to suggest to him something after 2002 which would have more of new technology and would more practical for everyday use. Since he is only a novelist mechanic. What car would be a classic/icon after 2002?
