Question type: General

Hello Daniel Day. Im writing again to ask another question. Theres alot of controversy and mixed theorys on how to check the transmission fluid on an automatic vehicle. Im old school, check the fluid when the vehicle is running/idle. But my girlfriend insists the vehicle has to be off. What is the correct way to check the automatic transmission fluid in our 1997 Toyota Tacoma extended cab 2wd?

My Toyota has two indicators on the dipstick, showing cold and hot, hot meaning normal operating temp. Fords must be checked hot with engine running in park.

I think the transmission should be checked when the vehicle is running. I can't find the dipstick.
