Can CarGurus/anyone verify a price reduction, then a price hike with a dealer?

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Looking at a vehicle that was originally marked at $19,919, then reduced to
$16,746 on Sept 11, 2020, then marked back up to $19,500 then dropped to
$19,200, all according to Cargurus. Salesman said the $16, 746 price was
obviously a mistake; they'd never mark the vehicle that low. I believe he's
telling a lie but I can not "prove" it. It's Carguru's word against his, so to
speak. I believe Carguru reports what &they& see via information sent to
them. I believe the dealer *did* mark it down, for 1 day, then when it didn't
sell, he marked it up another $2,500. How does Carguru get their price
notifications as they keep up with a vehicle on the market?

Even if you verify the lower price the dealer has told you they will not honor it. CG's does not set prices, the dealers do.
