1996 Dodge Ram shift issue.

Asked by Sprgflwrs Feb 20, 2015 at 10:09 PM about the Dodge RAM

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 4x4 5.9ltr. The
current issue that I'm having, I'll start the
truck first time for the day and I can leave
my driveway, hit the stop sign about 1/4
mile away, and when I press the gas pedal it
pauses as though in neutral and slams into
gear. This is the only time of the day it does
this. I've driven it cold and let it warm up for
up to 10 minutes and doesn't seem to affect
the outcome.

I have a 99 dodge ram and my issue is that I will crank it up when it's cold then I can drive it about 5 minutes and then once the tranny gets warm it will just stop pulling. It's like it goes into neutral.

Torque converter or it's clutch, or might be a clutch pack going, specifically the one for 1st gear, or something related to that like the solenoid, valve body, or piston seal. Check the ATF level and if okay might want to take it into a tranny shop.
