Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 98 dodge ram 5.2 that wont start. The engine coolant temperature broke so the
wires touched the wire on the alternator. I think something shorted now the truck wont
start , it cranks but no spark and we have fuel .

There is a pretty good chance that the temperature sending wire touched the alternator you damaged the PCM "computer"

If I am not mistaken that wire goes directly to the PCM if that is the case you could get a used one

Also I have these codes p1492 ambients/battery temp sensor input. P 0113 intake air temperature sensor 1. P0123 throttle/ pedal position sensor . But if the computer is sending codes doesn't it mean its fine.

battery was disconnect overnight. Idk I've changed crank sensor, crank, cap and still nothing. Relays are good maybe your right could be the pcm.

I worked on a Dakota that drove me nuts seemed it had a mind of it's own I don't understand why it is giving you codes if it does not run was the check engine light on before this?

About the only thing I can suggest take it out because they have a number and you can price or get a used one

ignition coil may be the answer. if something shorted it should have blown a fuse before causing any real damage to it, the main reason for fuses. I know my dodge would crank and crank but no fire so I started digging for answers and I tried throttle position sensor, ignition coil, and relays and fuses and it turned out to be the crank sensor. id try an ignition coil and see if that's the cause. the two screws can be a pain in the but to get out so wd40 and tapping them with a hammer to break them loose will work. I think it may be your problem plus it wont throw a code because the engine wont run and it cant record the data. only thing is that it may have a slightly different set up mine being a 1995.

I’m having the same issue with my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500.. the alternator went out so I replaced it and the battery and now my truck just cranks but won’t actually start.. I’m at a loss as well. Did you ever figure anything out?
