Why does my truck smoke when i start it

You have worn valve seals allowing oil into the combustion chamber at startup. It really wont hurt anything unless it gets real bad. Valve seals can be changed its a fairly involved project for the average person. If the engine has high mileage you can try using an oil treatment to reduce the smoke.
