my speedometer stopped working where do i start 2002 dodge dakota

It could be a bad speed sensor. It could be in the transmission or in the differential. The other option is a bad gauge cluster.

To check for codes on a 04 turn your key to on position, but not start ....three times fast and leave in the on position the last time . the codes will show up on your odometer
