How do I remove the accelerator cable?

Asked by DarrenGar Feb 03, 2009 at 08:15 PM about the Chevrolet Cavalier

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My accelerator cable broke (snapped in half).  I'm trying to remove it from
the pulley apparatus that operates the air intake so I can put on the new one
(The very end of the engine side of the accelerator cable).

The problem is, I can't find out how to get the ball on the end of the cable
out of that pulley.  I can see it inside, but my manual says nothing, and I've
tried long enough that I'm willing to ask advice on something that seems
pretty dumb.

Has anybody ever replaced that cable and/or knows how I can get that metal
ball out of the pulley so I can remove the broken cable and install a new one?

these type clips usually pop right off under a little pressure applyed by a screwdriver
