Lock all but the drivers door from the inside using the lock knobs, do not use the electric locks, close and use the key to lock the drivers door, wait at least 30 seconds, then using the key unlock the drivers door, open it up. that should disarm the system, if it doesn't then there is a programming error in the security system or the chip in the key has went bye bye.

Call a locksmith, he can pick out the code and cut a key for that door, but you will still need the the first kept for the ignition.

If the key has gone bad, how do I get another key? do I need the bad key to get a new one? How much is that gonna run?

A locksmith can do the job, with or without the old key, but will be eaiser if you still have the old key. Hard to say on costs, all depends on time and materials, minimum at least hundred bucks.

I had a key made for mine for $80 at an independent locksmith shop. Got quotes up to $250 from the dealer and some other shops.

sean was right. i spent two days trying everything and nothing worked. it all started with a dead battery. when i disconnected the battery and turned the ignition to on or run, I'm not sure it says anything, i hooked the battery up and no flashing lights, just silence. and then it started. i have a '96 ram 3500 and this happened to me once before with a dead battery. thank god. i was really getting pissed. thanks sean robin

Power up alarm mode. When the battery is disconnected and reconnected the security system enters into a power up alarm mode. - Flashes headlight - Flashes Park and taillights - Prevents the engine from starting. __________ In order to prevent the engine from starting the PCM disables the fuel injectors fuel delivery (pulse).

Toni. If that's the case then you may have a corrupted BCM, unfortunately the only place that can verify this is a Jeep dealership. If it is corrupted you may get lucky and it will only need reflashed and not replaced.

I'm having the same problem... I did find that there were wires broken in the wiring harness that runs between the cab door post and the door (I think that was the initial problem seeing how there is a key sensor in the door). After fixing that problem, the "key sentry icon" on the gage cluster is still on and my Jeep still won't start. There are a few other things I need to try, so I'll update when I finish.
