Pontiac Grand Prix 03 Not recognizing driver door

Asked by Jai92 Oct 08, 2013 at 09:44 AM about the Pontiac Grand Prix

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The driver side door of my Grand Prix 03 is not shutting off the radio and lights when its
opened. It is draining the battery even when i manually turn of the radio and lights. The
windows will still be on along with the wipers.
Example: Turn ignition off open door and radio doesn't cut off like its supposed to.

I have had this problem with my Olds Aurora. You may want to check the wire harness inside the rubber boot between the door and dash on the driver side. What happens is these wires are exposed to the elements and overtime constant opening and closing of the door can cause these wires to break. Now, you may not see a breakage in the insulation itself, but the actual copper/metal wire inside. You may also want to check your fuse as it could be working intermittently - meaning its likely failing.
