Top Won't Come Back Up

Asked by scullydk_fbi Feb 01, 2014 at 11:03 AM about the Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The roof will go down perfectly fine. But then when I get home and try to get the top
back up again using the switch, it raises SLIGHTLY, then stalls, keeps clicking, and
then falls back down. It's like it just doesn't have enough power to make it up over the
top. Usually if I wait a few days it will work again.

Anyone know what's causing this or what I need to do to fix it?

This worked: turned ignition key to ON position (not all the way to start engine, just to where radio can be turned on). Turned back off. Ignition back to On. Raised the windows. Turned ignition back to off. Turned key all the way to ignition and started engine. Pushed the Close button and the top functioned as expected. Saved a trip to the shop.

If 95-99 then check the trunk for a manual switch behind the panel for where the antenna is ok.

Thanks a million guys! After battery goes dead, the system has to get back into sink..patients is a virtue when it comes to cars!

Holy smokes, just replaced the battery and had this same problem. Roof was open when the battery died. This solution worked the very first time. Ours is a 2008 Spyder. Thank you very much, maybe I should send you the $75 that I would’ve had to give to the local Mitsubishi dealer

The this worked for us too. Turning the ignition switch so only radio came on. Raised the windows then lowered. Then off. Then started the car, pushed the close button and top raised as expected. Thank-you were much. 2007 Eclipse Spyder GT. Ontario, Canada, Oct. 24, 2020
