When the engine stops running you lose the power-assist to steering and brakes. That is to be expected. The real question is why is the engine stalling? Do you have a check engine light on? If so, get it scanned for trouble codes that might give you a hint as to what is going on.
Yeah Kenf there is a check engine light on and when I hooked it up to a scanner it said the crank sensor could that be the problem?
Yep. Your engine can be losing timing, and shutting off. How many miles do you have on it? You can replace the crankshaft position sensor and see of that rectifies the problem, if not you may have an issue with your timing belt. Usually a timing belt problem results in more than one code, so hopefully in your case it's just a faulty sensor.
