It can, but if I remember correctly, the crankshaft spins the opposite direction on the 4G63 and it would take a lot of custom fabrication to make the gearbox line up. To put it simply, no. It is way more work than it's worth.

if you put the transmission in with it it should bolt right up depending if the transmission is a driver side or passenger side mount up on the engine but they should both be driver side mount up. but i dissagree with randy its worth the time and effort when your done. the 2.0 is a stronger motor then the 2.4.... ive got a 97 eclipse 2.0 5spd and i dust 2.4 eclipses all the time

4g64(2.4l) and the 4g63(2.0l turbo) face the same direction ... you are able to swap it easliy but needs to have a new computer, wiring harness and gauge cluster and prolly motor mounts, not very sure if the trans will hold up to the turbo engin but it will bolt up as long as it a 7 bolt not a 6 bolt

i have a eclipse spyder gs with the 2.4l and i was wondering if i got a 2.0l engine as well as the transmission for a 2.0l will i have to do a lot of work and will it fit??? right now the reason i want to replace the engine is because the guy i bought the car from didnt tell me that the head was warped and when i did drive it, it would drop antifreeze into the exhaust. i also found out that the 2.4l is very hard to find parts for.
