Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 mercury grand marquis which is locked in park and will not shift to reverse. Is there a cable underneath the car that I can fix?

I do not believe so, it sounds like the safety interlock may have malfunctioned and is preventing you from shifting, make sure your foot is on the break pedal and second see if there is any wiring up behind the brake pedal that may have come loose from a switch ( or maybe the switch entirely has come loose ) hopefully this is helpful I had this happen to a 98 Dodge Caravan
