non gearing

i have a polo classic, starting from two weeks i realized where i park there is a oil leak, now it was kicking a gears automatically, eg,if was driving on gear 5 it will kick to gear 4, now it doesn't go into gears, what could be the problem

Is the leak engine oil or red ATF? I would check the transmission fluid level and if you have not changed the fluid and filter in the last 30,000 miles I would do it now.

Volkswagen trany fluid is not red it looks exactly the same as the engine oil. its likely the transmission fluid levels have gotten so low it no longer shifts. this means you need to have the trany serviced immediately before it ruins it.
