My 99 cav 4dr ran out of gas. I coasted into gas station. Now it won't start, sometimes it starts momentarily and then runs rough and dies. Acts like the timing belt jumped. What do you think? Do I have to prime it or should I check the timing belt?

It is common for a car to not start immediately after completely running out of gasoline. What happens is the fuel lines get so dry and the engine struggles to start while getting gas through the pipes. On occasions where there hasn't been gas for a long time it is possible for water to gather in the fuel tank which would cause the car not to run.

I have a 94 cavalier rs 2.2 and when i start my car it idles really rough and the car will shake and yu can smell gas. It goes away when i drive away or push the accelerator. I replaced the 02 sensor air filter fuel filter air temp sensor. I replaced the plugs and wires with ACCEL and when i changed the the spark plugs had white powdery stuff on them. 3 Answers

i put fuel in throttle body it starts but wont run changed crank sensor as long as i keep putting fuel in the throttle body it runs
