A seized engine means the engine froze. This usually occurs because the engine got very hot possibly running with no oil or water to cool it down. Usually but not always, a seized engine must be replaced. It will be expensive to rebuild or replace the engine.

who determined seized, usually due to sitting for a long period of time, or lack of lubrication/extreme heat....what codes were reset, to give insight to other potential issues???

To determine if it is seized have someone attempt to start it while you watch the engine. If the pulleys and belts turn it's not seized.

If your are saying the service lights come on and your engine stops running, there may be something wrong and it shuts the engine down. When you run the engine, the thermostat will be hot. The temp gauge, if you have one runs off the engine coolant temp in the engine before reaching the thermostat. Do you have any friends that are "motor heads" that are familiar with how cars run? Have them look at it. Is the garage you take it to only seeing a woman and attempting to empty your bank account? Ask around for a very good reliable car garage that will give a complete diagnosis of why the codes need resetting before it will run. You also sounded that there was prior problems that prompted you to take the car to a fix it garage for repairs. What was this? Did they only reset the codes and it ran? The codes are there to help in the diagnosis of problems.

tj92492 how do you know the flywheel does not turn over? Can you see it? There are many reasons an engine will not rotate. A seized engine in only one reason. Usually a seized engine is caused by a bearing, usually a crank bearing freezing on the rod and crankshaft causing it not to rotate. That is the normal 80% of the time reason. Others are pistons seizing, engine disintegrated, or any number of other reasons, including timing chain breaking causing valves against the pistons and preventing the rotation of the engine. And Glenda if you are following this, what happened to your engine?
