Anyone ever had a 6.0 blow a spark plug out?

Asked by jusjoe_70 May 28, 2012 at 02:12 PM about the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My '02 2500HD blew a plug out to the hole and has no threads left. Looks like I'm pulling the head tomorrow. Anyone else had this problem?  Do I need just head gasket and valve cover gasket or are there more?

get a head gasket set it has everything you need , intake & distributor gaskets, valve cover & head gaskets and some more that you will need.

Well you might as well change your spark plugs while you are at it along with the wires and you are going to need a new exhaust manifold gasket so you can add that to your list. You will also need a helicoil kit so you can fix your head. Other than what I listed you dont need to add anything else to your list unless you want to replace some other items such as valve stem seals. You dont have a distributor and the intake gaskets on that engine can be reused. Also you will not be doing anything with the timing of your engine so you can forget the scan tool.

Oh you might want to get a fuel line disconnect tool so you can disconnect your fuel line and get your intake manifold out of the way.
