Looking for an expert on old Buicks

Asked by Chris Jun 06, 2018 at 09:11 AM about the 1966 Buick Riviera

Question type: General

I recently purchased a 1966 Buick Riviera from an estate
liquidation.  Originally i thought the car was original.  It has
7k miles on it and is really clean.  I had the car looked at
and the consensus is that it was a restoration.  It also has a
wildcat motor.  Is there someone that would be able to help
me out with some technical questions about this car?

I looked up 66 Riviera and pretty much the only thing that comes back is 425 motor. Yet the car has what appears to be a wildcat. What can i check to verify or by looking if this is a wildcat motor or a 425 with wildcat air cleaner.

Go to the AACA forum, in the forum there is a Buick section and in the Buick section there is a Riviera discussion.....lots of experts there that can help. You may need to post some pictures so they can see what your have question on.

425 was the displacement... It was the "Big Block" and the last year for the engine. "Wildcat was what they called the engine, I think it was attributed to more than one engine. The Riviera in 1966 was available with only the 425 engine, but it was also available on the "Wildcat" not to be confused with the engine, but as a body style, and the Electra. The engine is commonly called a "Nail Head"
