2003 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Tranny Issues

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Looking for some help, and direction on what could
be wrong with my 2003 Chevy Silverado 1500's
transmission. I am pretty much completely clueless
when it comes to mechanical issues with vehicles,
so bare with me lol. Truck was driving fine, and
normal and one day I was driving and noticed it
wouldn't get up and go until I got to higher RPM's. I
got home, put it in park, started cycling through the
gears just to see what would do what. The truck will
not move at all when in reverse, reverse seems to
be completely gone. Other gears like drive, 3rd,
2nd, etc. will work it just takes higher RPM's for it
to actually accelerate and go. Any insight from
anyone would be greatly appreciated!

Let me add, I checked, and the transmission fluid was a little low. I added transmission fluid, and got that squared away but with no change as far as anything that I listed above.^

Found on another website: Slow, slipping or no reverse, lo reverse clutches are worn out, fluid leak in the reverse apply circuit, or broken sunshell. It is possible to remedy a fluid problem by removing the checkball from its cage in the case in the rear of the transmission may help , must remove valve body, or adding a high viscosity additive or other seal restorer product. May also have worn boost valve, can replace in the pan.

Find a local trans shop for a proper diagnosis. For an almost a 20 year old truck, your probably looking at a transmission rebuild. One they open the trans up, you'll want to replace the other parts.

Sounds like you have internal problems in the transmission. In this case I would recommend a good transmission shop.
