What is the easiest 5 speed transmission to use?

I would like to add a 5 or 6 speed instead of 4 speed. I have a 84 gt with a v8
from a 97 Cadillac 4.7 and was wondering what the easiest swap would be? I
didn't put in the engine so I cannot answer many questions you might have.

Unless the head gaskets have already been done, I'd replace the engine and transmission. This is a Northstar engine and they always, sooner or later, blow head gaskets!! They're not cheap to fix either, if you can even find someone who knows how to do the job on this engine. Basically Northstar engines are junk! Jim
