Check Engine Light on with Cruise Light Blinking

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2007 Subaru Forester -- A few days ago my battery
died due to me leaving a light on inside the car. A
neighbor charged my battery. The next day I went
into work just fine but on the way home my check
engine light was on and the cruise light is blinking.
The oil was changed a few weeks ago and I haven't
put gas in it in a few weeks. Any suggestions on
what to do about this?

The lights are warning of issues. Have the trouble codes read and post them here.

No codes showing

You have a code reader?

Where would I find that?

74,565

You can buy a OBD2 code reader at an auto parts store but most stores will read the codes for free.

Okay stupid question time. Since I know nothing about cars and my husband isn't here right now how does this device detect what the codes are if I can't see any?

You can't see the codes without a reader but the CEL tells you that there are codes to be read. The reader attaches to the OBD2 port under the dash usually under the drivers side. It looks like this ---
