As a general rule, this happens to alert you that something bad is detected in the airflow and can damage your catalytic converter. Too much fuel is one scenario. You might have a bad oxygen sensor and it might be enriching the ratio too much. I haven't dealt with this personally so I don't know if there are codes to pull or if you just need someone with a scanner to watch live data and see if the sensors are fluctuating the fuel ratio properly or what.
