You may not be able to. Some of the newer vehicles have a plug in place of a dipstick for "dealer service only." If there is a dipstick it should be towards the back on the passenger side of the engine on the Equinox.

GuruD is correct, in addition the dipstick is on left side of tranny just below the motor mount. there is a bolt holding the dipstick in place. 2 man job. 1 below to hold socket in place, 1 above with long extension and ratchet to loosen bolt. then use a small funnel with long tube to fill while the person below holds the tube in place and check while filling

found that if you remove the front motor mount the dipstick is easy to access, as opposed using extensions from above, the dipstick does have cold fill markings

My 2012 chevy equinox has 73 thousand miles and I was driving down the road and it just kicked out of gear ?? Well my nephew said to turn off the motor and remove the key for a few min and I did and it started working again for a few miles and then the check engine light came on and I had it checked and it is a p0796 which means low fluid or dirty filter or solenoid. Guess how much to change the filter and solinoid? 600.00 at a transmission place but chevy said parts are 371.00 with labor added. I have not had one problem with my car until this happen 4 days ago. Now I'm one pissed off woman.

First off I feel bad for you, you being a woman you are at a disadvantage and many a young man as well. I have been a mechanic all my adult years (70 now) and I taught both my son and daughter a lot of basics which saved them some heart ache. Machines do have issues and can break down, my advice is to first take the car to a individually owned mechanics shop or dependable mechanic, have them to check the fluid level and possible leaks. sometimes the simplest thing can cause big problems. Once I took my equinox through a car wash, the sun roof leaked enough to wet the shifter on the console, had to wait about 20 minutes to allow it to dry, never had had another problem with shifter. Good luck and God bless
