Decoding error: VIN is too short, it must be 17 characters.

^You aren't going to get a 17 character VIN before the mid to late 80s. A simple google search (learn to use google, it is your friend) for "Firebird vin decoder" yielded this website: http://www.transamworld.com/fbird-vin.php. If you click on 2nd gen, it gives you the numbers to go by. According to the Vin Decoder (this is your freebie), it's a 1971 Pontiac Firebird Espirit, produced at the Van Nuys plant with a V8 engine. The last 5 numbers indicate production sequence. They didn't have a vin code for each specific engine until 1972. Only way to figure out the motor is to get the casting numbers off the block/heads or to pull it apart and measure the bore and stroke.
