speed gos into low,1 and reverse but all it does is grind when i try to put it in 2.

Are you shifting when the car is rolling? My 73 has to be started in gear and shifts only when rolling. There is a bit of ajustment on top of the vaccum control module on the left side of the engine compartment. Good luck
