Hey Gilroy! I couldn't come up with your answer on the web , but here's the url to the web site of a very personable guy regarding restoring Beetles. I'll bet he has the answer for you. There's a message board on the site as well so perhaps you can hook up with another Beetle enthusiast there if need be. Hope this gets you on the right path. If not one other option would be to contact the folks at The Tire Rack at 888.541.1777. They might be able to dig up your info.
