gas mileage

Asked by atomictow May 15, 2007 at 12:01 PM about the 1968 Volkswagen Beetle

Question type: General

My dad and I are having a debate on the gas mileage for his 68' beetle.
He says it was around 48MPG. Is that right?

Maybe if you were going downhill and had a strong wind behind you! I don't think he is extremely far off, they used to get gas mileage that rivaled some of the modern hybrids, but I don't think it was that much. I tried to get the original numbers but couldn't find them anywhere.

I would agree with lightGear, except I think 48 MPG is way far off. With very careful highway driving, the bug will max out at about 35 MPG.
