Rebuild engine?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I drive an '87 Jeep YJ.  Mysterious smoke comes through the interior vents below the radio.  Just one of the little things indicating that there may be a bigger problem.  Might it be advisable to put something new under the hood and what should it be?

I don't want to change it up too much. My Jeep and I are at one with each other. I'm not mechanically inclined but we do have access to used parts as well as a decent mechanic. Re $, anything (nearly) would be better than a new car payment.

Is it smoke or steam? It might be the heater core leaking, check your anti-freeze level and check if the carpet or floor is wet.
