Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 72 Dodge charger 318 four barrel with a performer manifold, avenger Holly carb, and electronic ignition system. It has recently been turning off on me. Here are the clues to my mystery. Car turns off only when i am driving, also everytime i step on the brake but will turn off other times. There are no broken vaccum hoses. I have changed the ignition module, distibutor, fuel pump, fuel filters, and ballast resistor. The car gives no warning of turning off, and can be turned on many times, not always, immediately after shut off. Help

Hi ChagerZ! You have a pretty systemic electronic issue there. You are going to need to find someone to give everything a good going over. But first throw this question in front of these guys at this Charger forum. They may have some things that you should look at first. Good luck. Hope it helps! http://www.chargerforumz.com/

We have a 72 Charger that had a similiar problem and eventually would not start at all We traced back all the wiring and found an in-line fuse looked to be factory under the dash in the harness leading to the ignition we didn't care where it went inside so we spliced the wire together eliminating the fuse under the dash, traced the wire back under the hood and installed an in-line fuse there for easier access. This was 2 years ago so far it hasn't blown again
