How can I make my 1998 Passat 1.8T faster?

I want to make my 1998 1.8T Passat faster. In particular, it's acceleration to 120km/h rather then top speed.

Should I install a new ECU, or pump the turbo up or what?

I live in Australia if that changes anything.
