slips out of reverse

my son has a 98 jetta it wants to slip out of reversr... any help would be great ...thanks

If an automatic, you've got either a bad solenoid, worn valve body, low fluid pressure in the trans, or worn out clutch plates in the transmission. This will require a shop to diagnose. If a manual, the problem is simpler, but again will probably require a shop to tear it apart and see what exactly is wrong. Sounds like a worn transmission either way.
