what is the easiest way to replace a 1997 Subaru legacy gt 2.5l automatic transmission?

Without a lift and trans jack it's not going to be terribly easy. You can either put the car on jack stands and drop just the trans out the bottom, or you can remove both the engine and trans out through the engine bay. I've done a manual trans on jack stands out the bottom in a Subaru, which wasn't too bad but it's not a job I would relish doing that way again.
