Wont go in overdrive 1997 dodge ram 1500

Iv been haven issue for awhile my overdrive light will not go
off I can never shift into 4th gear/overdrive just stays in 3rd
shifts perfect in every gear but will not go into overdrive at
all overdrive off light on dash stays on unless truck has sat
all day without running then I can crank it up and drive it
about 2 miles with light off then bam downshifts into 3rd
gear and light pops up need help any answers will be
appreciated
