My 1999 dodge cummins has problems shifting

Asked by big_jake Jan 21, 2015 at 06:57 PM about the 1999 Dodge RAM 2500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I'm sitting still, or just turn my truck on, it's really hard to shift it into gear, and I can't shift into reverse, but when I'm driving it shifts fine. I have to pump the clutch multiple times before it will engage. Checked the hydraulic clutch reservoir and it was full. What's the problem?

sounds like you have a bad pressure plate and is dragging the disc making the input shaft spin at a speed not at engine speed but enough not to allow a smooth shift ..by double clutching or pumping the clutch allows the disc to slow enough to shift like it should .....//you won't notice it as much while driving due to the fact the the gears are spinning and mesh easier then they do sitting still during the shift
