2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 Auto

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.2 Lv8 we had to do some repairs on she drove fine for a couple months then i noticed it was acting up on shifting , I would drive it and out of the blue the RPMS would rise but the MPH and accelerating would not. i had it up to 3000 rpms at 10 mph. We would get out and check some weird plug on driver side of the transmission and shut the truck off , then restart truck and it would be fine . We replaced some kinda solenoid on a bracket it actually has 2 solenoids on it and it would shift through all the gears fine but i dont think its shifting into 4th gear. when it acted up you could turn truck off and restart and it would be fine for a bit then act up again thats why the plug and solenoids was replaced but its still having issues around 4th. you can manually shift it and feel it shift in the gears but 4th. it has new and clean fluid filter , bands have been adjusted ...any ideas before i drive it off a cliff???

Sounds like a computer or sensor issue, now before driving it off a cliff you might consider having a live data test performed to see if any of the sensors are showing a misread, if there is a misread then that can mess up the shifting as well as other stuff. Now if nothing is found on the scan then it could be an internal transmission problem. A good transmission shop can do stand alone testing and then tell you if it’s good news or bad.

We continually hear from novice mechanics who have problems with automatic transmissions and think there's some quick fix for them. Automatics aren't easy to work on. That's why there are so many shops that specialize in them..... Get a good code reader and see what pops up. You might just have a solenoid problem, and I don't understand why you'd replace one and not the other. It might be that the 23 year old trans is just worn out and needs the diagnostic skills of someone who can really find out. So stop screwing around like you're changing plugs on a Dart and get a professional opinion.

Ed92626 Well Mr Ed 1) Both were replaced . 2) i have a code reader NO CODES thanks for asking 3) i work on all my trucks and this is a new issue i have ran into with dodge never had this problem with my chevy trucks . 4) i post to get opinions on what might be wrong not your snotty attitude ... you could have just not responded at all that would have been better 5) maybe the shops didn't rip people off with their insane prices of stuff come up with other b.s then jack the prices up because they think I'm a girl i wouldn't know the difference then i would take it to a shop. 6) this 3 year old transmission its 23 years old . anymore ingenious thoughts ?...keep them to your self .

What snotty attitude? I'm just telling you what any mechanic who can't see the car would say. It's that paranoid chip on your shoulder that makes mechanics just want to talk down to "girls." Yes, it's that 90% that give the rest a bad name..... Next time you want help, give all that information in your original question. Then maybe guys will treat you like a guy.
