How can I open the rear hatch when there is no battery connected?

Jumper another vehicle's battery over long enough to pop the release button. Be sure to get the polarity right.

Get into your car via the back seat , on the back panel of the tailgate is a small rectangular cover plate , release it with a small screw driver. Then tug on it , the hatch will realease. Be careful to push the hatch up gently so as not to damage the electric motor.Also check your owners manual for manual tail gate realease.
