i have a X3, 5 years old with 70000 miles. a few weeks ago the water temp light came on, when i removed the expansion tank filler cap the water looked more like grease. The garage replaced the whole coolant system including the radiator due to the contamanation. A week after getting the car back the temp light came on again only this time the car overheated, the car is now back in the garage only now they say the cylinder haed is cracked.
Has anyone experience anything similar?
Looks like unfortunately the garage is trying to make the last buck off you by only replacing the cooling system in the first instance but without properly explaining to you how the grease (engine oil) got into mixing with the coolant. The engine had a leaking headgasket and needed immediate attention to prevent catastrophic failure, ie. cracked/warped head, connecting rods, valves, etc.! A shop capable of such unethical practice should not perform any more work on your vehicle.
Thanks for that, Vince.
well this is not a very usual issue. may be bad luck that u r getting such problems back to back. now that ur bmw is back in garage, make sure the mechanic checks everything properly . http://x3bmw.net/for-2011/
