Drive trains and old trans?

Asked by Ross5340 Jun 29, 2016 at 08:09 PM about the 1979 Ford F-250

Question type: Car Customization

Would my 98 ranger 4.0 v6 rwd automatic
drivetrain work with a 79 300 straight six
motor and manual transmission if I were to
install the engine and trans in the ranger

It might work, but the 300 6cyl. is probably longer than the original engine. It will require quite a few modifications such as cooling system, engine wiring, motor mounts modification, transmission mount modification, exhaust modification and a different driveshaft also. Also the oil pan on the 300 may or may not clear the cross member.
