how hard is a straight axle swap to do on an 88 ford f150? i have the stock a-arms on it now but i want something more heavy duty

Anything is possible. You will probably need to switch to leaf springs. A good Donner would be a late 70's F150. Make sure you check the track width, and gear ratio.

off road design ord.com offers a solid axle swap kit for these trucks. its pretty bare bones kit but the engineering is already done for you just lay out your welds to their measurements use their brackets and find a decent donor axle with gear ratio to match your rear.
