1979 Ford F150 won't start

So I recently did a tune up and rebuilt the
carburetor on my 79 Ford F150. After putting the
carburetor back on it suddenly wouldn't start. I
replaced the solenoid, starter, ignition switch, and
battery cables. The starter is now cranking, and
with a little bit of starter fluid I can get it to start for
about 5 seconds and then it dies. Last time I tried
it it backfired through the carb. It is a very weak
start at best. Fuel is pumping through the
carburetor, wires are in the right order, and battery
is fully charged. Any ideas on what to try next to
get it to run? It was running before I rebuilt the
carburetor, but had a really rough idle and the o
rings in the needle valves were shot which is why I
did the rebuild.

On older model vehicles, backfiring through the carb usually means a skewed air fuel mixture where the mixture is to lean. Check your carb work. If you can get it running, even badly, check the timing.
