I believe you can order the truck from the factory with either transmissions

it can eb either, i have friends with both standard and automatic transmission S10's and sonomas, from what i've noticed, more often than not if the truck has the 4.3 liter vortec motor they are usually 5 speed standards

Yes S10s come with both transmissions. in 84 the 4.3L had not been introduced yet, so the largest motor you could get was the 2.8L v6. Also the 4.3 is more found with an automatic transmission than a manual transmission. Maybe just in certain areas there are more.

My 1992 s-10 is a factory 4.3 5 speed,but they are pretty rare that way,especially in a regular cab like mine.
