is there a better way to help the shirter on my 4sd. 64 S.S.

Original standard 4-speed on the floor muncie-well its desighn has a lever-BAR (bought a new one-not installed yet)& the desighn structure that the bar rest on has worn & has been for some years, the push rod has been welded(was the first problem that started 10 yrs ago -bent)as close to as possible to original size(top)seems to not engage to the lenght properly(it taps out on metal) would it have a repacement ?
