where is throttle sensor located ?

Asked by davidmelendy Mar 16, 2014 at 01:30 AM about the 1985 Chevrolet Corvette

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

looking for the reason the engine surges and dies when stopped at light or in traffic. Runs
great on the hwy. Will run if put in neutral after coming to stop. Light pedal will keep rpm's
steady, otherwise rpm will fluctuate from450 to 800 at random. Could it be the throttle
control module and how and where is it on the 1985 corvette motor. Thanks.

it has to be connected to the throttle shaft to turn thru its 3 point phases a simple pontimeter varying low voltage to pcm, yeah they can short out, rarely though

Not sure what all that jimmy7 crap ment. You should have .5 Volts to the PCM at idle position and 4.5 V at wide open throttle. do this testing key on engine off, KOEO. your tuned port engine has a throttle body mounted to the front of the intake plenum, at the rear of the big ribbed hose from the air cleaner. the TPS, throttle position sensor is on the throttle body opposite the throttle cable, passenger side

Also check and clean your idle air control. It's located directly below the throttle position sensor.

As the doctor mentioned about tps it should be .5 volts at idle to 4.5 at full throttle. You should show a smooth climb in voltage as you move throttle to full open and a smooth decline as you return it to full closed position. Hook your digital volt meter to "A" and "B" marked terminals to check it for proper function.
