what makes my 4plus3 tran howl

i have 1984 corvette the trans started to howl in 2and3 gears if you give it gas it is fine it i when you let of the gas kinda coasting in gear

have you checked the gear oil in trans,gears may be going bad,or the noise is comming from rearend another thing that comes to mind is 2nd& 3rd gear syncronizers going bad.
