If you're planning on keeping the vehicle fix the engine first. Zero or very low compression on one cylinder is a valve problem on that cylinder. So you need a valve job. Not cheap, unless you're going to pull the head yourself then send it out to a machine shop for the valve job. If the truck is a high mileage vehicle you should have both heads done. Then worry about the exhaust later. Hope that helps! Jim

I was honestly just wondering if I should buy a new engine all together. it isnt cheap $1500. but i would not have to worry about anything else braking on me. A mechanic said I should buy a new engine all together even though it was tuned up recently. I was gonna go with a rebuild kit but i feel like he is right. Even with the tune up it is in bad condition.

A good rebuilt engine is more than $1,500.

A rebuilt engine would be the way to go here, if that's an option for you. Having the heads redone is good but the bottom end is still old and may fail. Sounds like good advice from your mechanic. A tune up won't fix the problem with the number 8 cylinder. Thank you for the best answer click as well!! Jim

They just around $1,500 look it up and the mechanic is asking for that much. And your welcome! Ill look around on the engine next week because that is when the truck is available for me. Its at my dads house. (im 16 and was just recently employed.) Ill talk to both of them and look more into the condition of the engine and will come to whether or not i should rebuild or get a new one.
