89 Bronco II mystery coolant leakage down back of eng

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2.9 Ltr, 4WD, 5-Spd.  Coolant drips from under vehicle, between transmission and engine on passenger side.  Changed intake gaskets, both upper and lower, checked freeze plugs.  Coolant is not getting in oil (No "Milkshake").  Engine not running rough, all operation normal.  Any other suggestions?  Could it be the head gaskets?

Is your exhaust blowing white? Is your coolant level dropping yet? Chances are high that you are on the verge of a breakdown and it would be the head gasket. I have read that this is a common issue around 280K. Mine just went. Replacement cost of the engine is almost the same as replacing the head gasket. 1700 plus labour for an engine or 1700 for the head gasket complete and no guarantees as to the head damage....Hope this helps

Did you check the water pump. I know if the gasket goes bad water will drip or pour from there.

check your freeze plugs,you may have a rusted out one,this is the onley way it will leak where you see it at.

Freeze plug at rear of engine try a pressure test checking for a leak like you would look for a rear main leak
